More early and late GP appointments now available in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley
28 September 2018
People can book evening, weekend and bank holiday appointments with GPs, nurses and other health professionals in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley.
Local GPs have come together to deliver the additional appointments in hubs across the area, and patients are very positive about the new service. It is part of a national drive to improve access to GP services and give people the opportunity to have an appointment at a time that suits them.
Appointments, until 8pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays, may be booked in advance during practice opening hours, or on the day the patient calls.
Helping make life easier
Dr Sarah MacDermott, Chair of NHS Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “We know that it’s sometimes difficult to fit a routine appointment with a GP or practice nurse into daily life. We hope that offering longer opening hours will be of particular help to commuters, parents with young families, and those who struggle to get to their practice around commitments such as work or looking after their family.
“The new appointments will not always be at your own GP practice, but the health professionals treating you will be able to see your full medical records, providing of course you give your consent.
“These appointments are for non-urgent routine care. If you urgently need a same-day appointment, all GP practices will do their very best to fit you in that day, as now, and that may include booking one of these new slots. If you need medical assistance when your practice is closed, call NHS 111.”
The new longer hours mean GP care is now routinely available between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays for all patients in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley.
How to get an appointment
All you need to do is phone your GP surgery and speak to the receptionist. They will offer the new appointments routinely but do tell them if you particularly need a weekend or evening slot.
These extended hours for pre-bookable appointments are offered alongside the existing ‘walk-in’ service at White Horse Surgery and Walk-In Centre, Northfleet, where patients can wait to see a GP without an appointment.
To make sure that the new appointments work well for patients, we would like to encourage people to tell us about their experiences of them.
