Celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS

Happy birthday to us!

The NHS turned 70 on 5 July this year and celebrations continue across the country to mark the occasion.

Our 70th year is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the achievements of one of the nation’s most loved institutions, to appreciate the vital role the service plays in our lives, and to recognise and thank the extraordinary NHS staff – the everyday heroes – who are there to guide, support and care for us, day in, day out.

What can I do for the NHS?

Here are some ideas for how you can give the NHS a birthday present:

Support NHS charities with a Big7Tea event

Give blood and join the Organ Donor Register

Join the NHS team

Pledge to use NHS services wisely

Take care of your health

Get involved in research projects

Become and volunteer and help others

Your stories and memories

In the meantime, we are backing the national call for people who have worked in the NHS in its earlier days to contact us with your memories. We’d like to hear about why you loved working for the NHS and how things are different now.

We’d also like to hear from anyone who would like to share their story about how the NHS may have changed their life. Maybe you’ve had surgery which saved your life or enabled you to do amazing things you couldn’t do before? Maybe you’ve been given a new lease of life with a transplant or a pioneering technique? Or maybe you would just like to say thank you for something great that the NHS has done for your or your family.

Please get in touch with us at dgs.communications@nhs.net or swale.communications@nhs.net
